Can you believe it is September? I can't! The summer flew by for us. Usually I am ready for fall because it is my favorite season, but not this year. I just want summer to stick around for awhile.
On Sunday we hosted an end of the summer bbq. We invited around twenty friends, so we had quite the crowd. We supplied the meat-Josh grilled up chicken, burgers, and brats. Luckily, our friends all chipped in and brought a dish to share.
We had quite the spread going on: salad, fruit, sweet corn, chips/salsa, bread/dips, bbq chicken wings, peach pie, banana cupcakes, peach cheesecake tarts, etc. We were eating good in the neighborhood! Sorry I didn’t get pictures of everything. I was busy hosting.
I did take photos of my bruschetta before the crowd arrived. I used our fresh basil and garden tomatoes. It was very tasty and the perfect little appetizer. If you have basil and tomatoes coming out your ears, try this simple bruschetta. It is perfect for any party!
Tomato Basil Bruschetta
6-7 Roma or plum tomatoes-or whatever you have from your garden
1 clove of garlic, minced
Fresh basil leaves-10 leaves or so, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
French baguette , sliced on the diagonal, about ½ inch thick slices
Dice the tomatoes and remove the seeds. Combine the tomatoes, garlic, and basil leaves in a small bowl. Stir. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon the mixture onto the slices of baguette. Do this right before serving so the bread doesn't get soggy.
I love brushetta and somehow always turn to it not just for a quick gathering appetizer but often an accompiant to dinner! Yours looks SO good!!
ReplyDeleteI love this as well. Classic flavour, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSounds sooo good and looks very fresh. One of my favorite appetizers. What a great party!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about YOUR tummy too! I finally caved and started taking the medicine the doctor prescribed for me. I took it last night before dinner and this morning before breakfast and already feel better. I just don't want to be on medicine :(
Love bruschetta and this is a classic! So reminds me of Italy when our fave restaurant served this while we waited for our first course. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! Sounds like the party was a blast!

ReplyDeleteI love the approaching Fall mainly so we can get a break from this horrid heat. I love how vibrant the tomatoes are. Definitely a classic!
ReplyDeleteoh that looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite too... and I'm ready for it.. but only because the summer was so awful. I keep thinking about sweaters, jeans, and Uggs.
ReplyDeleteThe bruschetta looks beautiful. I bought a bunch of tomatoes at a farm stand this past weekend and have been enjoying them all week!
Well who doesn't love bruschetta? Nothing says summer quite like bruschetta made with fresh ingredients right from the garden.
ReplyDeleteI don't want summer to end either. Then again, in NY summer never really started. We had some weird rain/spring hybird punctuated with a week of hot weather here and there.
Those tomatoes are just GORGEOUS!!! Can't believe tomato season is pretty much done...
ReplyDeleteA delightful bruschetta!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Rosa
I love bruschetta. The tomato topping looks gorgeous. I also can't believe it's September already. Can't wait to meet you at the end of the month!

ReplyDeleteThat appetizer is proof that sometimes simple is best. I know those flavors well and love them dearly.
ReplyDeleteThe classics are always the best! Looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I have always wanted to fall to come, but not this year. We had the shortest summers and the rainiest. I just want another month of summer, no humidity though.
ReplyDeleteIt stinks that you have these tummy problems--still.
Mmmm...bruschetta is one of the best uses of fresh summer tomatoes that I can think of. I made some right after seeing Julie & Julia (it looked so good in the movie!).
