Monkey Bread Muffins
Josh loves and appreciates good food. He is a great cook, baker, and dish washer:) I am lucky I married someone that shares my same passion. Sometimes he surprises me though.
For example, yesterday he bought a fried bean and cheese burrito from the supermarket deli. One of those really gross looking ones. He was so excited. He devoured it in seconds. I was appalled:) I guess I am the "food snob" in the relationship, because he can eat pretty much anything and everything.
He loves monkey bread, store bought biscuits rolled into balls and covered in butter, sugar, and cinnamon. I personally am not a fan of store bought biscuits, homemade is the only way to go if you ask me. But since I love my hubby I sometimes make him his favorite treats, even if I don't like them.
This time I decided to try monkey bread muffins. I rolled the store bought biscuits into balls and covered them in cinnamon and sugar. I placed them in a muffin pan. I then poured the ooey gooey sauce (butter and brown sugar) all of the balls. They baked up in no time and Josh was in heaven. He loved them. I never tried them, but my brother in law and niece did, they loved them as well.
If you are looking for a quick, sugary breakfast treat, try these. I guess everyone loves them! I will stick to my Fiber One for now:)
Monkey Bread Muffins
(Printable Recipe)
4 cans of refrigerated biscuits, I used Pillsbury
4 cans of refrigerated biscuits, I used Pillsbury
Cinnamon
Sugar
1 stick of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a muffin tin with cooking spray.
2. Cut the biscuits in half and roll the dough into little balls.
3. Combine the cinnamon and sugar. I use extra cinnamon:) Roll the balls in the mixture.
4. Place four balls in one muffin cup. Fill the pan.
5. Melt the butter and brown sugar in a small pot on the stove. Stir until melted and bubbly.
6. Pour the gooey sauce over the muffins.
7. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
8. Cool for a minute in pan. Remove muffins from pan and enjoy.
**If you don't want to make muffins, you can do a big monkey bread loaf in a bundt pan. Just layer the balls and pour the gooey sauce over them. It will take longer to bake, 35-40 minutes.**

I am w/ you on the store bought stuff. But these do look tempting. I am not sure how you passed on them!
Incredible photos! I think it's very sweet of you to use storebought for your husband !
My type of baking! Looks great too!
I'm with Josh--these things are awesome (though we've never done them muffin-style before). Monkey bread is a big tradition in my family.
These looks so scrumptious! A wonderful treat!
Cheers,
Rosa
that sounds good! I love that it's easy and fast. some days I do not want to play with dough and just want it done with now, you know?
I must say--I'm usually with you on the store bought biscuits. Why buy when the ingredients are cheap and the biscuits are easy to make? But, I must also say that these little monkey bread muffins are just precious! It's no wonder everyone enjoyed them: they certainly look delicious!
I agree with you, homemade is the way to go. But I think my boys will love this one. I will have to try it.
Matt has mentioned monkey bread a few times, maybe I should make these for him.
oh my gosh! What a good idea...and guess what? My Josh loves Monkey Bread too! His mom actually just got me a mold so I could make the treat for him!
PS just wrote into food network and sent them the link to your video and blog...hope you're not mad ;)
This is an easy treat to make. Everyone seems to love it. Just not one for me:) Thanks for all of the comments!
Erica-Our Josh's are so alike. I can't believe you sent that in. You are too funny! I'm not mad, I could never be mad at you!
Some of us haven't mastered homemade yet ;)
I think they look great :p
I didn't realize that you could make monkey bread with store bough biscuits. I have them on my list of "to make" items. They look like fun to eat.
I appreciate good food too; and those muffins!! :-D
Yum! Monkey bread is so dangerously good and unhealthy :) I love it.
You can make monkey bread recipes with homemade (or frozen) roll dough as well. Takes a bit longer, but results are even more delicious!
My husband is the same way - sometimes he surprises me with his food choices! These look great, I've never made monkey bread before.
i've seen monkey bread pans in places like williams-sonoma. but what exactly is monkey bread?
Oooh, what a quick and yummy treat! Great idea!
wow, those look tempting, i don't know if i could resist :)
Cute idea! I love Monkey Bread so I am definitely going try the muffins!
Yum! Monkey bread in a single size serving! Too bad I'd probably eat like 4 of these. :)
Ha, well they sure do look wonderful!!!
I'm with you, homemade is the way to go with monkey bread. The muffins look wonderful.
I think our husbands would get along quite well - he's a fan of those supermarket burritos and I'm pretty sure he would love this monkey bread. In fact, if I made it with something other than refrigerated dough he probably wouldn't enjoy it as much. They look pretty yummy to me too!
These look pretty good to me. I like home made too, but sometimes you just have to try the store bought ones.
Yum! I had been planning on making monkey bread for my class in the morning and thought about changing to the muffins but the full version is just easier. This is a great idea though.
I have yet to find a homemade biscuit recipe (outside of a blueberry version) that I really like.
I'm usually not one for sugary treats in the morning, but I can say with certainty that those would not have gotten past me without trying one (or 2) :)
My kiddos would love these...I'll "keep them up my sleeve" for a special weekend!
oh agh - i LOVE monkey bread. these would be dangerous. brilliant!
cheers,
*heather*
first, so jealous of you to have someone who share the same passion! Second... he really has talent on what he's doing, that bread muffin looks terrific!!! :D
i've never tried monkey bread! i have a husband that would like these, too ;) don't they have terrible taste?! ;)
What a great idea! I've been thinking about making monkey bread all day, but didn't want to make a big pan of it. I'm going to have to try the muffin version. I have some ABin5 dough in my fridge, so I think I'll just use a bunch of that in place of the biscuits. Yum.
I bet you wouldn't be able to tell they were store bought with all of that butter and sugar on them! They look yummy! You have such will power!
What a great idea! These look fantastic!
We also had Monkey bread today. It is always a nice treat when you are sitting in your pj's all day. I need to try it in the muffin tins though for portion control.
I love love love monkey bread and these muffins would definitely be good for portion control :)
Great idea to put them in muffin cups (maybe that would help me with portion size compared to when they're in a loaf)! They are so cute and look amazing!
What a great idea and perfect portion! And, um, I sometimes buy those really cheap burritos with mysterious ingredients at 7-11. :)
I made something like this a while back and they were so SO gooey. They were good, just gooey and messy.
Yours look so crusty!
Sounds Fabulous!! I'll have to put this recipe in my list of try recipes and then probably go straight into the cook again column!!
Thanks for the single serving idea, I'm not as big a fan of the bundt idea, just because I've had people try to make them and not get them "done" all the way through, and then try to serve them. Ewww is all I can say, but when they are single serving like this it's so much easier!!
Also does anyone have a good simple homemade biscuit recipe that would work well with the monkey bread or should I just use my traditional biscuit recipe?
Thanks again!
-TJ
Isnt Josh the lucky one to eat all these wonderful things you make for him :) the monkey bread muffins look sinfully irresistible :D
Wow, that looks so good! I am so impressed that you came up with the recipe on your own!
PS. How are you and your husband not, like, 300 pounds? :)
of course i find this awesome and completely drool-worthy. monkey bread rocks.
I'm not usually a big fan of super sweet breakfasts, but monkey bread is REALLY good! I love how you turned these into muffins - great idea! (I'm going to pass on the link to my mom because I think she'd really like to try it as muffins). As far as store bought biscuits - there are some that are better than others, but once you cover them in butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon, I doubt it matters anymore :)
Great idea...these would be wonderful for breakfast with coffee!
OH MY HECK Maria! You are going to make me the most popular Mommy in North Ogden! My kids would love these and I'm pretty sure I have all of the ingredients!
I can't believe you didn't even have a little bite....
Looks like a great midnight snack no one will be watching. They look great Josh. Sometimes easy works.
WOW! those look like the BOMB! fantastic! all gooey and sticky and caramely...yum! I'm totally drowning in my drool here!
Those look DELICIOUS! I'm all about the homemade stuff too! I love me some Fiber One, but I'd have to have a bite of those!
You just can't beat monkey bread...making it into muffins is a great idea.
Talk about heaven!
What beautiful photos Maria and don't these Monkey mufins look such a wonderful treat!

I like this; it's so easy and fast.
Super cute idea!! I bet they taste as good as they look...yummy!!
These look awesome. What a clever idea!
Guys like this kind of thing! It's like the Three Stooges. I suspect they carry a recessive gene that hasn't yet been discovered.
These muffins look seriously yummy!!

man,o man! thanks for sharing this. anything with sugar and cinnamon is a winner in my book! lol! this is great!
lol, sometimes simple, store bought and dressed up stuff satisfies the craving :) they look delicious!
Monkey bread is one of my sugary, totally not gourmet indulgences. I absolutely love it. I've made my dough from scratch before, but this looks like a very easy solution to a lazy weekend breakfast. I will definitely have to give it a try!
You know I'm all over that. YUM!
whenever my best friend and i would have brinch we'd make monkey bread! They're great to make with kids too, they love making a mess with the butter and cinnamon and sugar.
I'll have to try them in little individualized servings like this, so yummy!
Those look ten kinds of delish!
mmmm those look so good!!
These look delicious! I love monkey bread, but I've never had it in muffin form!
We usually prefer homemade also, but look at those beauties! I think they look delicious! We usually eat sweets just once a week and this will be a good one!
What a yummy recipe! I absolutely love how adorable - and sinfully delicious - these look!
We love monkey bread...it's a Christmas morning tradition!
I've never heard of monkey bread. These look incredible, but I fear they would be a tad too sweet for my taste.
Ooh ooh ahh ahh (monkey sounds). They look wonderfully tastey!
What a cute name of muffins and it looks yummy.
I would not have been able to pass these up! They look pretty delicious to me. I think it is great to have a nice short cut up your sleeves every now and then!
wow!!! that bread muffin looks so inviting... :)
I love monkey bread and I love the idea of mini ones. I'll have to try it that way next time I make them.
Those do look great! Don't care for those biscuits either, but they are fun to play around with. They fry up a nice doughnut. My kids love that. Just like you, though, I still make my bowl of oatmeal.
Wow, these look so good. I was just saying to my family that I need to make some goey sticky yummy lactose free breakfast treats.
I have to admit I do love canned biscuits. I can and do make my own, but there is something about the taste of the canned ones that I just can't replicate the taste.
Beacuase of that I do love monkey bread. The muffins are a very convenient way to do this.
I do have a recipe for homemade monkey bread. If I were smart, I'd make it some time.
Josh knows what he's talking about! Monkey bread rocks! I do have to admit those muffins of yours are pretty genius! Thanks for the idea....I'm making some as right by gosh now!

Meant to tell you I added pecans!
~ingrid
Those monkey bread muffins look so good!
These look delicious Maria! Lucky Josh.
Made them....loved them! Just like I knew the kids, Joe, & I would. I didn't add pecans to Babygirl's as sometimes she eats 'em and sometimes no. Thanks you for the "recipe". I've always made this in a bundt pan but this way is so much nicer for serving & like last night I only made enough for the 5 of use which was one roll of dough! I'll be blogging about this one & linking back to you! Can you tell I LOVE this? Ha!
~ingrid
Ooh, done as muffins! Cute idea! Kids would love thier own piece of pull aparts!
I just made 6 of these using leftover bread dough I made a few days ago (American-Style White Bread from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day). They are delicious!! You should make it this way to avoid the canned dough variety. Just use the leftover dough after you've made your two or three loaves of bread.
Maria, Just wanted to let you know that a blogger lifted your photo of the monkey bread muffins, copyrighted it and is claiming it as her own.
