Waffles for Dessert

First off, thanks for all of the birthday wishes yesterday! Everyone was super sweet. Thank you!! I had a great day!! We are having my dessert party tonight. I will be sure to take pictures!

We usually make waffles on weekends or for dinner during the week, but this time we tried them for dessert!! Instead of using waffle cones, we made real waffles to hold our frozen yogurt!!

I used a basic waffle recipe and added in some or
ange zest...I thought it would be a nice touch and I am loving all things citrus right now! The waffles cooked up in no time, we love our waffle iron. The waffles are nice and thick!! We topped the waffles with vanilla frozen yogurt and a raspberry sauce.

Holy Yum!! The hot, crisp waffle was perfect with the chilly fro yo! The orange and raspberry flavors were great too!! Of course you can top them with anything you like...ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, candies, etc. Make the waffle sundae of your dreams!!

We had extra waffles, so we put them in the freezer. Just reheat them in the toaster and serve for breakfast, dinner, or DESSERT!!!

Waffles with Orange Zest

2 eggs
1 3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup canola oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour

1 T sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Orange zest, from one orange

Beat eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl. Add in dry ingredients and the orange zest. Don't over mix. Just mix until blended. Pour batter into a hot waffle iron that has been greased. Cook until the light goes off:)
Top hot waffles with frozen yogurt and raspberry sauce....or toppings of your choice! Freeze leftover waffles in a ziploc freezer bag. To reheat, use your toaster!

  11. Darn my apartment and lack of storage space for any more kitchen gadgets! I could handle not having a waffle iron to make waffles for breakfast thinking pancakes were a fine sub. But pancakes simply won't do for dessert!!

  12. I am a HUGE fan of waffles for dessert; in fact, one of my favorite diners has just that on its menu. I can't wait to try these waffles with the citrus. When I'm feeling extra "sinful," I add chocolate chips or mini baking Reese's cups to my waffles!
