Two Peas and Their Pod: All Dried Up!

All Dried Up!

My new obsession is drying fruit! I just can't get enough! Josh's co-worker gave us her old food dehydrator since she never used it. It is old but still does the job. I got it out this week and it has been running non-stop! I have been drying peaches, apples, and plums. I love the aroma that has been lingering in our house. I added cinnamon to the apples and fall is definitely in the air.

I have been bagging the fruit in snack bags for easy, healthy, on the go treats.
I am going to buy pears at the Farmer's Market this weekend so I can dry those. I am telling you, it is an addiction:) Have a great weekend everyone!!

Your fruit looks delicious - I recently made a great recipe Apple-Cherry Crumble Bars that used dried apples.

Drying fruit is so fun. I just finished up drying practically a whole box of peaches. They're great and last forever. We also make homemade fruit leather all the time by blending up fruit and adding a little bit of natural applesauce. Have you ever tried that? Another great use of the food dehydrator.

We have been doing this too. It disappears so fast. My favorite is dried peaches and pears, although bananas come close. So much better than store bought!

OOOH! I should look on Craig's List for a dehydrator. Good snack idea, Maria! I'm loving all the fall recipes you're posting here. I can pretend it's fall at my house with food even though it's still in the 80's-90's here.

So cool! What an awesome gift to get from a friend. I mean, it's totally the kind of thing I would feel guilty buying, but something I would love to have. I love dries apples, especially in salads.

I have a dehydrator - how long does it take to dry apples? How do you store them? Do you add anything to them?
Wonderful that you are preserving your own fruit. I hope to one day soon too.

Natashya- It takes about a day to dry the apples. Depending on how thick you slice them and your dehydrator. They make the house smell so good! I store them in plastic baggies for snacks! I added cinnamon to the apples but that was it. It is so easy!! You should try it!

I am so jealous of your dehydrator. That is one of those gadgets I could never justify buying for myself because I wouldn't use it enough, but would totally love to have if I had an unlimited budget and storage space. Dried pears and plums sound amazing!

Wow that dried fruit looks so good!

Ok, now I'm really sad. I just sold my Dad's food dehydrater at a yard sale for $3.

I'm kicking myself now.

I have always wanted to get a food dehydrator. I would save so much money making my own dried fruits. I look all the colors of the fruits you dried.
