Honey Cinnamon Granola
We love granola! It is great for breakfast, a healthy snack, or even sprinkled on yogurt for a sweet dessert. The only problem is a lot of the granolas out there have nuts. I personally adore nuts, but Josh is deathly allergic so I have to limit what I make with nuts.
I have been toying with a few recipes lately and finally came up with a keeper. I really just made this up on a whim. Obviously, there are no nuts and I kept out butter/oil to keep the granola healthy. My addition of honey and brown sugar helped hold everything together. I added in cinnamon and vanilla for extra flavor and of course craisins at the end to add color!
I really like this recipe and will use it again. But any suggestions? Do any of you have a favorite nut free granola recipe that is still healthy? Let me know.
Honey Cinnamon Granola
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups whole oats (not quick cooking kind)
1/4 cup wheat germ
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
Handful of Craisins
1. In a small pot, combine honey, brown sugar, and vanilla. Heat over medium until sugar and honey are combined and smooth. Make sure to stir it a couple of times.
2. In a bowl, combine oats, wheat germ, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
3. Pour honey mixture over the oat mixture and stir well.
4. Pour granola onto a sheet pan that has been sprayed or has a silpat.
5. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Make sure you stir the granola often. Maybe every 5 minutes or so.
6. Let cool on sheet pan. Stir in Craisins and enjoy.
7. Store in tight container.

This granola looks wonderful! I actually have all of the ingredients on hand (including a huge jar of wheat germ that I bought for a Tuesdays with Dorie recipe and was pretty sure that I'd never use again!) so I am definitely going to make this. The week that TWD made Granola Grabbers, several people posted their own granola recipes, so you might be able to find a few out there (the week of 8/19, I believe). Thanks for sharing this one!
ReplyDeleteYUM! I love granola. This looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderfully delicious. I made some granola a little while ago and everyone overdosed on it so we had to take a break. This looks really good and I love how healthy it is!
ReplyDeleteThe granola looks really good - I love adding it to yogurt. I really need to make my own soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! You and your husband are so cute! Check out Suite Apple Pie's blog. She has a fabulous granola recipe I make nearly every week.
ReplyDeleteI just realized I'm a dummy- that granola has almonds in it...sorry!
ReplyDeleteCathy-I will check out the TWD recipes. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteErica-Thanks! I can always omit the almonds or make it for me!
You know, I would have thought just taking the oil out would be enough to make it healthy ;) This sounds really good as it is! I've been a fan ever since I learned to put it on fresh fruit and yogurt!
ReplyDeleteOooh, scrumptious granola!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the awards!!
Tasty looking granola and congrats on your awards!
ReplyDeleteyou deserve the awards... and your granola looks yummy... :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your awards! That granola looks delicious!! Much more healthy than the store version.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your awards and the granola looks perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI make granola every week. I change it up every time and don't use a recipe anymore. I like to do an eastern type once in a while - with cardamom and ginger, honey and raisins.
ReplyDeleteIf hubs can't have nuts - can he have seeds? Sunflower seeds are nice in granola.
If it helps, I keep the wheat germ, wheat bran and seeds, etc. in the freezer as they have short shelf lives.
Oh I love granola and haven't made my own in ages but after seeing yours I really need to. This Honey Cinnamon Granola looks great!
